Hello, again fellow adventurers!
We’re excited to share our latest house-sitting experience in the beautiful county of Lincolnshire, England. This charming part of the country has provided us with endless opportunities for exploration, learning, and family bonding. Join us as we recount our favourite moments and the valuable lessons we’ve learned along the way.
Settling Into Our Lincolnshire Home
Our house-sit in Lincolnshire was situated along a long country road and completely surrounded by fields as far as our eyes could see. The house itself was a cosy retreat, with a lovely garden that quickly became a hub for our daily activities. Dylan immediately fell in love with the outdoor space, especially the hot tub!
Nature-Based Learning
One of the greatest perks of world schooling is the ability to turn every destination into a living classroom. Lincolnshire's natural beauty provided countless opportunities for outdoor education. Our daily walks and explorations were filled with teachable moments:
Birdwatching at Willow Tree Fen Nature Reserve: We spent a day at Willow Tree Fen Nature Reserve, where we observed a variety of bird species and learned about their habitats. Equipped with binoculars, Dylan became quite the ornithologist, learning how to start identifying birds and noting their behaviours. This experience sparked an interest in ecology and conservation that we plan to nurture further.
Gardening Projects: The garden at our house-sit as always, became an extension of our classroom. We engaged in gardening projects, learning about plant biology, ecosystems, and sustainable practices. Dylan enjoyed looking after the fish pond, learning how to take the filter apart to clean each component and what each part did as well as feeding the fish. Dylan also enjoyed helping me cut the grass and jet wash the patio too. These hands-on activities reinforced lessons in science and environmental stewardship.
Creative Exploration in the Den
The house featured a wonderful den at the bottom of the garden that became our creative haven. Here, Sam and Dylan embarked on a musical journey, learning to play the drums and keyboard together. Their practice sessions were filled with laughter, rhythm, and the joy of mastering new skills. The den also housed an art station where Dylan created beautiful artwork, experimenting with different mediums and techniques. These creative activities not only enriched his artistic abilities but also provided a great way to unwind and express himself.
Fun Times with Murphy and Arnie
One of the most delightful aspects of our house-sitting adventure was the time we spent with Murphy and Arnie. These playful companions quickly became part of our family. The garden was our playground, where we spent countless hours playing fetch, tug-of-war, and enjoying Murphy's boundless energy. A really lovely day was Murphy's 1st birthday, which we celebrated with a special party. We sang happy birthday, baked a dog-friendly cake, Dylan had bought him some presents to play with and we all showered Murphy with love and attention. The joy and laughter from that day will always be a treasured memory.
Reflection and Growth
Our time in Lincolnshire was not just about exploring new places; it was also about growing together as a family. We embraced the slower pace of rural life, finding joy in simple pleasures and deepening our connections with each other. The experience reinforced the importance of flexibility in our world schooling journey, as we continually adapt our plans to seize spontaneous learning opportunities.
As we prepare to move on to our next house-sitting adventure, we carry with us cherished memories and newfound knowledge from Lincolnshire. This beautiful county has left a lasting impression on our hearts, and we look forward to more adventures ahead.
Until next time, keep exploring and learning with love!
