Four Months in Frome

Four Months in Frome

Frome became more than just a sit, it became a season of our lives. For four months we settled into a beautiful family home tucked in a quiet spot, sharing our days with two Bengal cats, Anuska and Cosmo.

Anuska was the elder of the two, small in size but large in personality. She was affectionate and vocal, always close by with a soft nudge or a little chatter that made the house feel alive. Cosmo, on the other hand, was a whirlwind of playful energy. Cheeky and full of spirit, he could turn anything into a game and kept us laughing throughout our stay.

Frome itself charmed us from the very beginning. Market days filled the streets with colour and life, the kind of place where you wander slowly, discovering handmade treasures and foods you didn’t know you’d been craving. We found ourselves swept into local fun too, duck racing, festivals, and long nature walks where the pace of the countryside reminded us just how good it feels to slow down.

The house gave Dylan a space to thrive. He spent countless hours in the garden, his laughter mingling with Cosmo’s mischief, and we joined the local gym together. Swimming became part of our daily rhythm, and over those weeks Dylan’s confidence in the water grew until he was gliding with ease. Watching him transform into a stronger swimmer was one of those milestones that sneak up on you, but leave a lasting mark.

Family visits made our time in Frome even more special. Nathan’s daughter, her boyfriend, and Mum and Dad came down to celebrate birthdays, Dylan’s 12th and Nikita’s 21st. We marked the occasion with a trip to Bath, a day of mini golf and bowling (Dad, of course, claimed his usual victory), and laughter that carried late into the night over pizza and cards. They were days that stitched joy into memory, simple but full of love.

As the weeks turned to months, the rhythm of life in Frome became our own. Nathan and Dylan even stepped away for a week to return to Spalding, looking after Murphy, Arnie, and Luna the cat for old friends who had become like extended family through this journey. The sit gave them another pocket of adventure while I held the quiet in Frome with Anuska and Cosmo by my side.

It was also in Frome that another chapter began, the beginning of Guardians UK. We launched the website at the start of our stay, full of excitement and hope, and though by the end the project hit its breakdown and the developers failed to deliver, it was still the spark that lit the path. From those first steps we started building relationships with other companies, planting the early seeds of something much bigger than we could see at the time.

Looking back, it wasn’t just a sit, it was a chapter. A place where birthdays were celebrated, skills were learned, dreams were tested, and new beginnings were born.

Reflection from the road: This sit reminded us that growth isn’t always smooth. Sometimes the most beautiful seasons are the ones where joy and challenge run side by side, where children grow stronger, family gathers closer, and dreams take their first shaky steps into the world. Frome taught us that even in breakdowns, beginnings are being written.
